>> Socio-ecological Research

All projects within the socio-ecological research initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) share a number of common features: Joint teams of scientists from various social and natural sciences investigate interdisciplinary problems. In addition, issues of interest for socio-ecological research as a whole are addressed in so-called "cross-cutting working groups" by repesentatives from various projects.

The research topics of socio-ecological research are problem oriented and close to practice. The research initiative puts an emphasis on the collaboration of universities and applied research institutes to increase the exchange between theory-based and more applied research. Young scientists are particularly supported.

The GELENA project receives funding within this research programme from 2002 - 2007 as a young scientists' group. Team members Bernd Siebenhüner, Thomas Beschorner and Volker Barth have joined the cross-cutting working group "The Role of Economics", while Esther Hoffman is an active member of the cross-cutting working group on "Participation".
